CELEBRATE TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY
ART AND ESSAY CONTEST

Celebrate Texas is pleased to announce our annual Art and Essay Contest, to commemorate March 2, Texas Independence Day. The 2006 contest has four - first, second and third place winners. There are four equal zones that participate including 16 central Texas counties. Each zone competes within their own boundaries.
The first place High School winner will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship.
The second and third place High School winners, and Middle and Elementary School’s first, second, and third place winners will also receive prizes.

This 2006 topics for each school level are as follows:

ELEMENTARY ART: “Texas Favorites: Unique Lone Star Things”
MIDDLE SCHOOL ESSAY: “A Historical Site: Why Is It Important?”
HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY: “What Makes A Texas Hero?”

The contest entries MUST BE POSTMARKED no later then FEBRUARY 8, 2006.

The winners will be announced on March 2, 2006 at the Celebrations in the State Capitol in Austin.
The program will be at 12:00 noon.

It is our desire that students learn about and love their great state of Texas. This contest may be used as a teaching tool, a springboard for discussion, or a home activity for extra credit.

This year we have made your participation easy by allowing you to sign permission for the student’s entry. This is a “blind” entry, so please insure that the students do not write their name on any of their work, including cutting and pasting in the registration field below. Please attach the entry forms securely to the students’ work.

You may also register by mail by downloading this form, completing and submitting
with your essay or artwork to Celebrate Texas, 3005 S. Lamar, D-109, Box 360, Austin, Texas, 78704.
Artwork must only be submitted by mail.

Winners:
Winners will be announced at noon on March 2 at the State Capitol.
